Instructions This calculator allows you to
calculate the "Moisture Vapor Emissions Rate" as prescribed by
ASTM F-1869 and ASTM E-1907.
The program is designed for
maximum flexibility while providing guidance and verifying
compliance with code requirements. Click on any of the
for help on the adjacent field. Any time a choice is made or a value changed the calculator will
display the updated result. When a value entered is not a number, or
is wrong (hour larger than 24; initial weight smaller than 27 grams...)
the calculator alerts the user and moves to the field that needs to be
corrected. You can choose to exclude the dish area as required by ASTM
(default), or include it as suggested by others. When you click on the
"exclude" button, the calculator uses the constant 118.932
instead of 108.846. The start date is NOT used in the calculations and can be omitted.
It is provided here for inclusions in the printed report
Use this field to enter an identifier for each
record. It will be copied to the summary table later.
Enter the day of week when the test started and
the day of week when it
ended by selecting from the lists. These are used in calculating
the actual time for the test.
Enter the start and end time information
needed to calculate the total hours.
Enter the time as hh:mm using the 24 hour format (4 PM is entered as
16). Leading zeroes are not needed (9 or 09). You will
get feed-back regarding compliance with ASTM requirements of
60-72 hours. Enter the weight at start and end
in grams. The calculator will
display the weight gain and the Vapor Emissions.
The total time between start and end is
displayed here in hours.
The total weight gain (in grams) as calculated
from the initial and final weight.
The message area is used to provide
feed-back and instructions.
The calculated Vapor Emissions is displayed
here. This value is calculated every time a value is
changed in any of the input fields.
Use the notes area to add information you
wish to record with the test results. These may be an
address, location, temperature and humidity... This area
is currently limited to 125 characters.
Click the submit button to calculate
Emissions after changing a value in any field. Pressing
the "tab" key or clicking the mouse anywhere on the form
(outside the changed field) will have the same result.
The "Copy to table" button copies the information
currently displayed in the calculator into a table below.
Make sure to click it after each calculation. When done,
you may print the page or copy the whole table to another screen
for printing (use link on the right ).
The "Erase table and restart"
link will erase the summary table without losing the data
currently entered in the form. Previous result summaries
will be erased (use link on the right).
To calculate another
test done at the same dates click the "Another Test" button.
This button will clear all the fields that are expected to
change (Minutes and weights) while leaving the rest of the
information as entered last.
Click the "Clear Form" button to remove all
entered data and restore the calculator to its default display.
Click the example button to see an example
of properly filled form and its calculations. This may
help where this explanation is not clear enough...
For easier and cleaner printing it is now
possible to copy the summary table to a new browser window.
from there you may easily export
the table into a spreadsheet or word-processor for further
formatting and saving. |
